The hostage drama with the Greek VLCC Kalamos, sailing under Maltese flag, that started earlier this month, February 3rd, was finally closed.

The last three men from the tanker's crew, being since held by the Nigerian pirates, were released. The 2 Greek and 1 Pakistani mariners were released in good health, but immediately taken to hospital for further examinations. Authorities assured that the mariners and their families would receive specialized help to overcome the past events.

Though the news of the hostages releasing was a happy one, still the authorities expressed their sadness over the loss of the Greek deputy captain who was killed during the attack off Nigeria. The vessel was enroute from China to Nigeria and was striken at Qua Iboe while it was waiting to be loaded.
