5 people have been charged after the police found 20kg heroin in shipping container.
Authorities found the drugs, disguised inside sports bags, were transported from Thailand and may have been bound for Sydney or other Australian cities.
The container was detained on May 29 and the police took to prison 5 alleged people of a distribution syndicate in Sydney yesterday after raiding 7 properties on the city's west and southwest.
In the time of the raids authorities uncovered 2.6kg of the drug ice, a further 1kg of heroin and a substantial amount of cocaine and cash.
A 49-year-old Belfield man and 2 other men, with age 55 and 52 from Mount Annan, was in Sydney courts today charged with conspiracy for smuggling a commercial quantity heroin.
2 men, aged 66 and 64 from Narellan Vale, was too in Sydney courts charged with attempting to traffic heroin.
The initiative for arresting were made after a 7-month surveillance investigation involving the Australian Federal Police (AFP), NSW Police, the NSW Crime Commission and Customs.
The value of the heroin is not known.
The narcotics were transported through many countries when arrived in Australia.
Police have not made arrests either in Australia or overseas in connection with the seizure.
