Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has obtained the last ship in a series of 26 ultra-large container vessels - MSC Valeria with capacities of among 13,798 TEU and 14,000 TEU, thas had been built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) and Samsung.
The 14,000-TEUers are 366 meters long, 51.2 metres wide with a 20-row breath, that are wider than the new Panama locks limit of 49 metres.
The latest MSC container vessel MSC Valeria is the 18th of the DSME ships, that are of a nearly identical design with the Samsung units of the same dimensions. She has joined last week MSC's Asia-Med 'Dragon' service. The latest MSC container vessel is following the MSC Deila in the DSME series, that had been delivered in April, according to Alphaliner.
In addition to these ULCs, Mediterranean Shipping Comany has also received twenty two neopanamax VLCs ranging in size from 12,500-13,000 TEU and is expecting 4 other vesels of this capacity before the end of 2012. It has also recently pushed a newbuilding programme for six 16,000-TEU vessels, to be chartered from Zodiac Maritime.
