Box Carrier was attacked and that raises concerns again.
With bad weather of late and increased vigilance and stronger defenses on behalf of the sailors if pirate attacks in the Indian Ocean has declined of late. Gulf of Guinea recently suffered from multiple pirate raids for example German owned container vessel Olivia(vessel details) at around 04:00 hours on the 15th of July.
This ship was attacked by a group of armed gang some 20 nautical miles off Conakry who proceeded to rob the crew of valuables. All crew members are safe, none was injured. After pirates had gone the vessel continued with the voyage.
The Olivia is a 20,000+ dwt box carrier sailing under Liberian flag and built in 1995. It 's interesting that the pirates did not take control of the ship typifies the type of raid most often seen in this particular area as compared to East Africa and, however serious and extremely frightening for the people on board, compares well with the savagery of the usual Somali piracy attacks
Right away after the attack the owner informed authorities and relevant parties and would like to state publicly its delight that the people on board are not injured and would like to thank the crew members for their handling of the incident.
