Minimum 1 member of the Agip crew has been killed as suspected pirates attacked a speed vessel contracted by Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) in Bayelsa State.
The vessel identified as MV Terra had been in ambushed by suspected pirates when it was heading to the firm’s Clough Creek flow station along Egbema-Angalabiri .
The attackers had shot the driver of the vessel on the leg and 3 other people of the crew.
An Agip personnel is said to have drowned as he dived in the river when trying to leave the ambush.
Operatives of the Joint Military Task Force in the area had been promptly deployed to the scene and are in search of the eventual pirates, Lt. Col. Onyeama Nwachukwu, the Media Coordinator of the Task Force told in a statement.
Lt. Col. Nwachukwu stated on Friday that “The vessel conveying some of the crew members of Agip were attacked by suspected pirates and 1 of the crew members of the company died when he was attempting to leave out into the river and drowned.”
There are 2 other Agip crew members still missing after the attack in the Tarabora creek in Bayelsa state, Nwachukwu added.
There is information that the ambushed vessel was not escorted by security team.
