On June 7th, the bulk carrier Go Skar was reported disabled and adrift in Gulf of Aden. The vessel lost propulsion power approximately 165 nautical miles southeast off Salalah, Oman in the Gulf of Aden.

The cargo ship left the Persian Gulf from the Iranian port Bandar Abbas and was on its way to Aqaba (Jordan), when the incident occurred. The most likely cause for the ship’s blackout is an engine problem.

Vessel’s engineers are working to repair the engine and to fix the problem with the ship’s propulsion system.

Generally the ship is in a good condition and after the engine repairs will be ready to continue on its route.

The Oman naval authorities are in regular contact with the bulk carrier crew and monitor the situation aboard, as the region is dangerous, because of pirates and rebels attacks.

The 43,656-dwt bulk carrier is owned and operated by the Greek company Antares Shipmanagement. It was built by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding in their shipyard in Fukuyama, Japan.
