The incident occurred on June 20 while the cargo vessel was en route to Bilbao laden with iron. Having been assessed by divers, a three-meter crack on the starboard side was found. The vessel was also taking in water in its ballast tank.

After the Barbarossa was refloated, it was allowed to sail to Grenaa under its own means. The vessel reached Grenaa on June 22 at about 7 p.m. where it was unloaded. Today (June 24) the Barbarossa left the port en route to Klaipeda for repairs.

Barbarossa (IMO number 9197765 and MMSI 236029000) was built in 2000. The 79-meter cargo vessel is registered in Gibraltar.
