The general cargo ship Angaju Ittuk collided with drifting iceberg on several nautical miles in Labrador Sea off Nanortalik, southern tip of Greenland.
The vessel was on coastal voyage in Greenland waters, but the skipper overtrusted to the radar and missed the drifting iceberg right ahead. The general cargo ship Angaju Ittuk collided with it and suffered damages in the bow area, but remained afloat without water ingress. However, the ship has some breaches in the fore part above the waterline, as well as some dents in the starboard side.
After the collision, the general cargo ship Angaju Ittuk proceeded by own power to Nanortalik for repairs and inspection.
Fortunately during the incident there were no injured people and no water pollution. The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of the incident and will follow a special survey of the ship.
The general cargo ship Angaju Ittuk (IMO: 8208737) has overall length of 32.75 m, moulded beam of 9.50 m and maximum draft of 2.50 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 255 DWt and the gross tonnage is 381 GRT. The ship was built in 1983 by Marstal stalskibsvaerft og maskinfabrik in Marstal, Denmark. The general cargo vessel is driven by one 4-cylinder diesel engine MAN B&W 404-26VO with total output power 400 hp. The ship Angaju Ittuk is owned and operated by Royal Arctic Line.
