Following Stena Line’s earlier announcement that it will double the capacity of its cargo services to the UK, DFDS made it known today that will also increase services. From 3 October 2016, a fourth vessel will be deployed on the Rotterdam - Immingham route and there will be 14 departures a week.

At DFDS, the Friedrich Russ will join the Anglia Seaways, Corona Seaways and Fionia Seaways, the vessels that currently serve the route.
Mikael Mortensen, Route Director Netherlands at DFDS, explained that the “deployment of four vessels will make it possible for us to offer our customers two departures a day from Monday through to Saturday and an additional departure on Sunday. The increase in frequency and capacity will be a tremendous improvement for the export and forwarding industry in the Netherlands, Germany and other countries.”
More efficient use of semi-trailers
Mortensen continued by saying that “our customers will also benefit from a minor change to the departure times. We will leave from Rotterdam at 15.00 instead of at 14.00 in the afternoon and, in the evening, we will leave at 20.45 instead of at 20.00. In other words, our customers will be able to arrive at our terminal later and therefore make more efficient use of their semi-trailers.”
Capacity
The Friedrich Russ can accommodate 110 semi-trailers and 12 drivers. In addition to the Rotterdam - Immingham service, DFDS provides 16 departures a week on its route to Felixstowe.
