Pirates have been detained by Dutch and Spanish navy teams off the coast of Somalia, reported the defence ministry of Netherlands.
The actions occurred when a Panama-flagged ship alerted for a piracy threat near the Somali coast. After the alert a Dutch helicopter from the frigate De Ruyter was dispatched to check the situation.
The helicopter intercepted 1 high-speed vessel and caught some of the suspects, reported ministry spokesman.
Another helicopter from the Spanish frigate Mendez Nunez also took off and intercepted another speed-vessel, detaining more suspects, all of whom are now onboard the Dutch frigate vessel.
The Dutch ministry stated those onboard the detained skiffs had thrown some objects overboard and tried to head off in distinct directions.
