The construction of OOS Walcheren (Hull number CMHI 163-2) started in China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) on the 24th May 2018.

The OOS Walcheren is the second newbuild Semi-Submersible Crane Vessel (SSCV) ordered by OOS International at China Merchants Heavy Industry to date. This vessel is identical to her sister vessel OOS Serooskerke which is currently under construction at China Merchants in Haimen and due for delivery in Mid 2019.

The OOS Walcheren will be delivered in 1Q 2020, which will provide sufficient time to capture the lessons learnt and enhancements from her sister vessel OOS Serooskerke.

The SSCV series are multi-purpose, heavy lifting vessels which can perform decommissioning work, windmill installations, offshore accommodation as well as modular plug and abandonment. The SSCV’s feature a hotel capacity which can accommodate 750 people, two heavy lift Huisman cranes with a total tandem lift capacity of 4,400t with subsea lifting and active compensation capability.

The SSCV’s can reach a top speed of 12 knots and are built in accordance to UK HSE legislation with valid safety case as well as ABS Habitability requirements.

Construction for SSCV OOS Walcheren Haimen City started in China

Once the SSCV’s are completed, they will boost OOS International’s capability in the heavy lifting and accommodation market, complementing the existing fleet comprising of her sister vessel OOS Gretha (SSCV) and an accommodation semi-submersible OOS Tiradentes, of which both are operating offshore Brazil.
