MMC First Process has entered into a contract for the delivery of a large fish handling package for a new wellboat. The wellboat was ordered by Alsaker Fjordbruk in Onarheim. Alsaker Fjordbruk is a vertically integrated aquaculture group, and one of the biggest privately owned producers of smolt and marine growers.

Havyard: Major new contract for MMC First Process

The development of the system will place great emphasis on fish welfare, and high capacity to minimise any operations that can stress the fish. The system is highly flexible and can operate in most commonly used modes. The wellboat will have a volume of more than 5,000 m3 and will be able to load a full range of products from smolt to fish for harvesting. The delivery includes all water treatment and a cleaning system. A cooling system has been developed for the cargo tanks that can also be used to heat the water for the purpose of thermal processing of fish. The system is highly energy-efficient and provides much cheaper water heating. The refrigeration system is of the type MMC SX, which provides very high performance while taking up little space. MMC First Process will also deliver its own automation system, based on industry computers and high-level programming, ensuring a full overview, logical structure and user-friendliness for the operators.

MMC First Process considers Alsaker Fjordbruk’s team to be highly competent and inspirational. They are very knowledgeable and have a clear vision of what they want. Salt Ship Design has designed the vessel and Alsaker, Salt and MMC First Process have joined forces to create a vessel where fish welfare, environmental requirements, energy consumption and hygiene are paramount. Through the development period, the parties have also involved the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and received positive feedback on the solutions chosen, especially with regard to fish welfare and hygiene.

This is an important contract for MMC First Process that shows how experienced users, skilled ship consultants and a forward-looking equipment supplier can work together to develop new and exciting projects.

The vessel will be built at the Astilleros de Murueta shipyard in Spain, and is scheduled for delivery in 2020.

The contract means that MMC First Process has orders on its books worth approximately half a billion Norwegian kroner, and deliveries extending far into 2019. In recent years, the company has further developed its expertise, capacity and partners, making sure it is equipped for further growth. We are ready to develop and deliver new innovative and efficient solutions in partnership with demanding, fresh-thinking customers who are concerned with quality.
