On Jan 19, around 7 p.m. local time a fire broke out in the cargo holds 4 and 5 of the bulk carrier Star Maria which was docked in Maghera at the Venice Commercial Terminals while the ship was unloading a cargo of coal from Brindisi.

The coal was destined to the local power station managed by Italian energy company Enel.

The fire was contained by firefighters by 8.30 p.m. by sealing the holds, but it took several more hours more to make sure fire was out. Combustibility was believed to be the cause of the fire.
