A container vessel that had begun drifting in a major shipping lane off the Essex coast has now been repaired and is fully ready to continue its voyage.

The ANL Warringa was reported to have experienced engine-related issues on Saturday. Lifeboats from Frinton, Walton and the Harwich were deployed to the vessel’s location.

The vessel managed in some degree to cope with the worsening weather conditions and it was able to put down one anchor.

A lifeboat was in stand-by mode, waiting to provide assistance and rescue the 28-man crew if necessary. The ship’s engine was, however, fixed at around midnight and the vessel was able to continue on its journey.

The ANL Warringa was en route from Hamburg to Tilbury, reportedly transporting hazardous materials when it started to drift in the North Sea, at about 20 miles off the coast of Essex, while sailing along the primary route between Hamburg and the East Coast ports.
