Container ship MV Cape Moreton caught fire in the Philippines on September 12th, 2015. The container ship sailing the flag of the Marshall Islands was at the Manila International Container (MICT) in Tondo when the incident occurred.
Billows of smoke have been seen from freight containers on board MB Cape Moreton at around 09.15, reported the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) crew members. Thick smoke billowing from the some containers can be seen on the photos below as the local firefighting department managed to extinguish the fire.
At the scene of the incident were sent twenty fire trucks of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to extinguish the blaze together with several other tug boats to help the firefighters to fight the flames. The crew members of the burning container ship MV Cape Moreton were evacuated by personnel of the BFP, who boarded the ship.
The 221-meter long cargo ship is owned by a german-based company, Cape Moreton Schiffarts. According to local news repors, the Manila Coast Guard head, Captain Daryl Vargas, the stated that the operator of MV Cape Moreton is Maritime-Gesellschaft fur Maritime Dienstleistungen MBH.
No injuries were reported during the incident while the cause of the fire is still under investigation by local authorities.
