In 2018, vessels of North-Western Shipping Company (NWSC, a company of UCL Holding) carried 5.0 million tonnes of cargo.
In 2018, having made a correct focus on transportation of paperwood from river ports of Russia’s North-West Region to Scandinavia, delivery of steel coils from Novorossiysk to the ports of Turkey, shipment of equipment for companies of Russia and neighboring countries from European ports and having optimized loading for return voyages, the company managed to achieve considerable improvement of its financial results as compared with those of 2017. Those measures enabled the company to raise the number of voyages by 16%, which lead to the growth of gross and net profit by almost two times, as well as a 21-pct increase of revenues.
New vessels of NWSC – 10 vessels of Project DCV36 (lead ship – “Amethyst”) and 7 vessels of Project RSD49 “Neva-Leader” – carried about 1.5 million tonnes (30% of the total volume).
In the reporting period, NWSC vessels carried 1.9 million tonnes of grain, 0.9 million tonnes of ferrous metal, 0.7 million tonnes of chemical and mineral fertilizers, 0.3 million tonnes of coal, 0.2 million tonnes of non-ferrous metal, 0.4 million tonnes of timber and 0.6 million tonnes of other cargoes. During the navigation season on the inland water ways of the Russian Federation, river-sea vessels of NWSC made 41 voyages to transport equipment (vs 30 voyages in 2017). In 2018, the company made 17 voyages involving DCV36 ships.
Export cargo (mostly grain, ferrous and non-ferrous metal, coal, timber, chemical and mineral fertilizers) made the bulk of shipments – 75.5% of the total volume and decreased by 17% to about 3.8 million tonnes.
Transportation between foreign ports totaled some 1.2 million tonnes (23% of the total volume) and increased by 25%.
In the reporting period, imports accounted for 1.5% of the total volume.
Domestic shipments in the reporting period were little if any.
