The Polish Parliament adopted a special act on investments in the construction of external ports. It aims to introduce facilitation enabling efficient implementation of sea port expansion projects. It concerns the so-called ports of primary importance for the national economy, i.e. ports in Gdynia, Gdańsk and the Szczecin - Świnoujście port complex, which generates income of 95% of shares to The State Treasury. The law is of crucial importance for the speed and efficiency of the investment, especially in the situation of lack of the undeveloped land within the port, which is especially in the case port of Gdynia.
- The dynamics of the increase in transhipments in Polish seaports clearly shows that greater financial means shall be allocated to the infrastructure development. This is the purpose of the external ports act prepared by us, which will accelerate the implementation of the investment, and this will result in an even greater increase in transhipments - says Marek Gróbarczyk, Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation.
- Adopting the law on external ports should be seen in the context of the ambitious investment plans of the Port of Gdynia, which in handling constantly increasing volumes of cargo. The introduction of procedural facilitations accelerating the construction of external ports is particularly beneficial in the absence of vacant development areas within their port administrative boundaries. The implementation of the Outer Port project in Gdynia is intended to both increase its competitive ability, increase the transhipment potential and enable handling of large ocean ships, as well as its position on the Baltic market of port services - comments prof. - The act adopted today gives a special role to the development of the Polish maritime economy. Enabling the expansion of ports in Gdańsk, Gdynia and Świnoujście are our government's priorities.
