The new waterway project, based in Egypt and named the New Suez Canal, is focusing on the expansion of the current Suez Canal that connects the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

This current development comes along the lines of the Suez Canal mega project which also involves the developing process of seaports in the three respective governorates that share a border with the canal – Port Said, Suez and Ismailia. The project will also center around the seaport development in the South Sinai city of Nuweiba along with developing procedures regarding the Sharm Al-Sheikh airport.

The mega project was started back in 2014 on the 5th of August by Mohab Mamish, who is the Suez Canal Authority Chairman, while in Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's presence.
