Vroon Offshore Services have entered into a contract with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind for the supply of offshore logistics support, accommodation and walk-to-work services during construction of the Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm. The Wind Farm will be located in the Irish Sea, with construction scheduled to commence in summer 2017.

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will supply forty V164-8.0 MW turbines to the first phase of DONG Energy’s Walney Extension project. Once fully commissioned in 2018, it will be the world’s largest wind farm, delivering power to over 600,000 British households.

Vroon will deploy its newbuilding subsea-support vessel VOS Start, specifically designed to cater for the exacting accommodation and personnel-transfer requirements of the offshore industry. Providing hotel-standard accommodation and workspace for up to 60 client personnel, VOS Start will be fitted with a motion-compensated gangway facilitating easy transfer of personnel, equipment and spare parts to wind turbines during commissioning. The vessel is also able to perform “mother-ship” duties for crew-transfer vessels.

Both VOS Start and her sister, VOS Stone, will be delivered to Vroon by Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding in China ready to commence operations in the 2017 season.
