Multi Maritime AS in Førde, is the leading ship design company for car and passenger ferries in Norway. The company has seen the need for an increased design capacity, to diversify its competence and to focus more on international market opportunities. The company has therefore made a strategic move by acquiring all the shares in the ship design company Polarny Maritime D&E in Florø, Norway
CEO of Multi Maritime AS, Mikael Johansen and Chairman of the board in Polarny Maritime D&E AS, Gustav Johan Nydal are both very satisfies with the merger. “This is a great step forward for both companies, and together we will form a stronger, more competent company with larger capacity and capability”.
Multi Maritime AS was established in Førde in 1983 and has since 2010 been fully owned by Fiskerstrand Holding AS. The company has 30 employees, and with cooperating partners it has a capacity to have up to about 50 people working on its projects. Over the 36 years since it was established it has delivered the design for more than 100 new buildings and has presently 11 different ships under construction in different shipyards based on its design. Multi Maritime AS has the necessary competence and experience to perform all activities in a newbuilding project from concept to detail design.
In particular, Multi Maritime AS has had focus on the development of car and passenger ferries, and in cooperation with several ferry operators the company has been in the front row for the development of electrical and hybrid powered ships. The company is one of the top companies in the world on this type of ships and has developed and delivered the complete design for 25 such ships, in addition to numerous refits of diesel-powered ships to hybrid and electrically powered ships.
Polarny Maritime D&E AS has 11 highly competent employees and together with its cooperating partners it has a capacity to have about 20 people working on its projects. The company has vast experience from developing specialized tankers, however, during the last few years it has focused on developing car and passenger ferries and has increased its competence in this field. In addition, the company has competence in the fish farming industry and land-based process industry. Polarny Maritime AS has international experience and its client base will complement the client base of Multi Maritime.
Mr. Nydal explains that Polarny Maritime has been searching for better ways to take on larger projects and to have a more inhouse capacity in order to focus more on the international market. Now we are building a stronger company by becoming a part of Multi Maritime Mr. Nydal says.
Multi Maritime AS will continue to have its main office in Førde, with departments in Bergen and Florø. All employees in Polarny Maritime D&E will be employed by Multi Maritime.
