Lloyd’s Register has announced an agreement with COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard for the classification of seven new-builds for Maersk Line. The 3,600-TEU container ships will be 200 m long with 35.2 m breadth.

Designer of the vessels is Odense Maritime Technology (OMT). The new container ships are to have Ice Class 1A (Finnish-Swedish ice class) in accordance with the LR’s Rules and Regulations. Their delivery has been scheduled for April – November 2017.

During the 11-year history of the shipyard, this is the first time it has received an order for container vessels.

Over the past 16 months, Maesk and LR have actively worked on the new-builds' project, which is the initial step in recently announced investment programme of the Danish carrier. LR team has supported the project in ECA compliance options, specification reviews and has participated in the negotiations with the Zhoushan Shipyard.
