Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) has released details on the sinking of the Iran-owned ‘Masrour’ oil tanker on Wednesday last week in the Persian Gulf.
According to Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC), ‘Masrour’ oil tanker, rented by the IOOC, ran into trouble at 14:30 on Wednesday, Nov. 2, four miles off a drilling rig located at Soroush Oilfield in the Persian Gulf.
The oil tanker engine room was severely flooded. Following the request for help, the Marine Operations Unit of Bahregan established an immediate radio communication with the tanker’s captain and dispatched a ship equipped with a mobile flood pump from Abouzar Platform at 14:45.
At 15:30, another ship equipped with a stronger pump unit was dispatched from Kharg and then a passenger ship was sent at 15:45 to rescue the people onboard the tanker.
Three towboats were also dispatched from Soroush Oilfield. All 12 crewmembers onboard the oil tanker were rescued during the relief and rescue operation.
During the operations, efforts were made to guide the half-sunken tanker toward the shore, but since the tanker’s stern had sunken into water, the units were forced to drop the towing ropes and allow the tanker to completely sink into the sea.
