A gas cylinder leakage resulted in the explosion that occurred yesterday morning at Bangladesh’s Chittagong Shital Enterprise scrap yard. The incident injured eight workers.

As reported by local media, the explosion took place when workers started a fire for the purposes of lighting an area of the ship but thus set off the explosion.

The administration of the yard, however, comments that a worker’s lighted up cigarette, which is a direct violation of the safety protocol, was the reason behind the blast.

A cylinder leak had been responsible for filling up the area with gas.

Eight of the workers were hospitalized. Five of them were in critical condition and admitted to a burn and surgery unit.

Local police is set to initiate thorough investigative procedures in order to accurately pinpoint the cause of the explosion.
