Repsol has carried out the largest supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to a ship for use as fuel. Eleven LNG tanks have been supplied to the Canadian ship Paul A. Desganés in an operation carried out in the port of Cartagena, with the collaboration of the Port Authority and Enagás.

New milestone in the supply of LNG as fuel at the Port of Cartagena

Repsol has reached a new milestone and consolidates its position as a supplier of LNG as fuel for ships. The development of the business of supplying LNG as marine fuel, both as one-off and long-term, is a key line of work in its strategy to provide solutions to its customers and add this fuel within Repsol's portfolio of marine fuels.

Repsol has coordinated and managed this bunkering operation in collaboration with Enagás, ESK and the Port Authority of Cartagena. The previous record had been achieved in the supply of ten LNG tankers to the ship Mia Desgagnés.

The vessel Paul A. Desganés is the third in a series of four ships built at the Turkish shipyard Besiktas. The vessel can operate using any of the three types of fuel: fuel oil, diesel or LNG.

LNG is an environmentally friendly fuel as it does not generate emissions of sulphur oxides (SOx) or particles (PM). It also substantially reduces CO2 and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. These characteristics enable it to comply with IMO 2020 regulations and emission reduction targets, in line with Repsol's commitments.
