On Friday, the United Arab Emirates’ 300-metre-long Zamzam ship successfully moored at the Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT), located in the southern Ba Ria province of Vung Tau, thus managing to become the very first container carrier to dock in Vietnam in order to load goods designated for the United States’ East Coast.

The vessel’s operator is Ocean 3, which is an alliance formed between United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), France-based container transportation and shipping company CMA CGM and China Shipping.

The vessel, which has a total capacity of 9,006 TEUs, departed from the Chinese Yantian port en route to CMIT and is going to continue sailing towards Port Kelang-El Suweis, New York and Malta, while also stopping at several other ports.

The deep-water Cai Mep International Terminal has the capability necessary to receive vessels of up to 160,000 DWT.
