The Kenza container carrier is now officially free to depart from Italy’s Cagliari port after having spent over two years in detention. The 724-TEU vessel was constructed back in 1991 and has a dead weight of 8,675 tons.

Back in May of 2013, the ship was seized by a local court in relation to disputes over payment delays regarding crew member salaries as well as to debts to a number of suppliers, amounting in total to roughly €400,000.
The Italian lawyer, Stefano Porcu, who is assisting the Morocco-based IMTC company, owner of the vessel till now, commented that they were able to find an agreement with the creditors. The vessel was officially freed by the Cagliari court and should soon set sail. IMTC has just sold the ship and is no longer its rightful owner.
Various ship brokers have confirmed that the Kenza was up for sale but any details regarding the vessel’s new owner remain unknown for the moment.
