Aker Arctic to build new icebreaker for Finnish government

By Vessels

Aker Arctic Technology has signed a contract with the Finnish Transport Agency for building new icebreaker. Aker Artic has to design the vessel and to arrange all technical details.
The Finnish Transport Agency had to make a deal with shipyards later this year. 125 million euros is the estimated cost of the icebreaker and has to be built by winter 2016.
The new icebreaker will sail continuously through thick ice because of its diesel-electric machinery. The speed in ice is planned to be 6 knots. In other hand the speed at open sea is expected to be 16 knots. The draught with full fuel tanks will be about 8m.
This icebreaker will be used for oil spill response and emergency towning missions.
