MSC Flaminia Docks in Romania

MSC FLAMINIA is waiting 6 weeks at the port of Constantza. The vessel was damaged by fire on 14 July 2012 and the cause for the fire is not known. In this incident 3 people died (2 dead and 1 missing) and the other crew members had to abandon the ship in the middle of the Atlantic.
It was difficult fire to be extinguished but after days of hard work was under control. After that MSC Flaminia was towed to Germany and in March 2013 sailed for Romania to be repaired.
Experts sent by the owners (REEDEREI NSB) of the ship will continue to work to determine the damage on MSC Flaminia. The vessel has to be sent to the Daewoo shipyards in Mangalia but before that has to be lightened. MSC FLAMINA’s draft amounts to 8.80m, the shipyard’s max draft is 6.40m. Remaining cargo has to be removed.
According to the owners this procedure will last for 4 weeks and after that MSC Flaminia will be repaired in the shipyard.
