Russia has the intention to renovate an oil terminal and fertilizer handling port in Liinakhamari by the Barents Sea. There are negotiations with investors. The plans for the port are for an annual capacity of 15 million tons of oil and 4 million tons of fertilizer.
This region was used mainly for salmon farming and the area was idle since the Coast Guard moved its vessels out. The port of Liinakhamari is planned to be an offshore complex for transshipment of oil which is expected to be a 320,000 tons storage tanker anchored in the bay outside the port.
