Japanese fishing vessel caught fire off Peru coast

A Japanese-flagged fishing ship caught fire off the coast of Peru’s port city of El Callao, and its 18 crew members have been rescued, with all safe and sound, the Navy reported on Tuesday.
“A fire was reported early Monday on the board of the Japanese fishing vessel Kenyo Maru-58, and continued to a lesser degree on Tuesday,” spokesman Fernando Valeriano commented.
“The 18 crew members were all saved. They all are in good health conditions thanks to swift action by our patrol vessel, which rushed in to help,” about 10 nautical miles off El Callo that is next to the capital, Lima, Valeriano reported.
The vessel was towed to a region where it would be safer in the event of any leaks of toxic substances, but no spill was reported, the spokesman told.
