Somali Pirate Attack Stopped by EU Naval Force

By Piracy

The European Union Naval Force announced for pirate attack near Somalia over a cargo ship with 14 Indian crew members on board. People on board the cargo ship sent a signal for help after they have been attacked by 12 armed Somali pirates.

Counter piracy vessels from EU and NATO in the region responded to the signal. Swedish and Dutch warships were near and responded quickly to the signal for help. The armed pirates had success on hijacking the cargo ship but seeing the warships had to steer toward the coast and abandoned it.

Piracy has dropped considerably in recent months because of anti-piracy patrols in the area and the armed security guards on board the vessels. This year, according to reports, armed pirates attacked 4 ships without success.
