Oldendorff Carriers is expanding its fleet of Babycapes further by buying four 115,000 tdw bulk carriers from companies controlled by Interorient Navigation Co Ltd, Cyprus and taking two sister vessels on period charter from them.
The ships were previously operated in a pool with Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN A/S. All six were built at New Times Shipbuilding between 2010 and 2013:
- MV “Orient Sun” built 2013 (tbrn “Pia Oldendorff”)
- MV “Orient Strength” built 2012 (tbrn “Peter Oldendorff”)
- MV “Orient Crusader” built 2010 (tbrn “Penelope Oldendorff”)
- MV “Orient Champion” built 2010 (tbrn “Patricia Oldendorff”)
- MV “Orient Centaur” built 2010 (on period T/C)
- MV “Orient Cavalier” built 2010 (on period T/C)
The 2013 built “Orient Sun” was already taken over at Zhoushan on Friday, 20 th April 2018.
The deals will boost Oldendorff’ Babycape fleet under operation to 40 ships, including 14 owned units.
“We are currently in the process of increasing the deadweight capacity of our 8 x 118,500 tdw “R” class Babycapes to around 122,000 tdw.
Patrick Hutchins (MD), Jesper Andersen, Jamie McBain, Sally Howard and Christopher Ernst handle chartering within the Babycape Business Unit.
Within the Capesize segment, which OLDENDORFF CARRIERS entered in 2006, we are today the leading operator in two of its size classes, namely the Newcastlemaxes (200 – 215,000 tdw) and the Babycapes (100,000 – 125,000 tdw).”
