The ceremony signifies a major milestone for the project that according to Petronas is the first in the world  and the construction phase now commences to meet its commissioning schedule in 2015.

The steel cutting event was led by Tan Sri Dato’ Shamsul Azhar Abbas, President and Group CEO of Petronas, and was jointly hosted by Mr. Thierry Pilenko, President & CEO of Technip and Mr. Jaeho Ko, President & CEO of DSME.

The FLNG facility is going to be situated in Kanowit gas field in Malaysia, which is 180 km. offshore Sarawak and is planned to have the capacity to produce 1,2 mtpa of LNG per year.

Once operational, the facility is being expected to change the landscape of the liquid natural gas business where the liquefaction, production and offloading processes of LNG, previously only possible at onshore plants are now able to be carried out hundreds of kilometres away from land and closer to offshore gas sources.
