4 people were saved by Amver participating container ship 'Altamira Express ' after their sailboat's engine failed 129 miles south east of Bermuda. The sailors managed ti activate the Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB).

Bermuda rescue authorities received the signal and contacted U.S. Coast Guard  in Portsmouth, Va. who queried the Amver system and found that 885 foot container ship Altamira Express may help the sailboat. Fortunately the container ship Altamira Express was only 12 miles from the sailors.

All sailors were rescued and are in good medical condition. The Altamira Express, managed by Hapag-Lloyd  AG of Hamburg, Germany, enrolled in Amver on January 1, 1988 and has earned 12 Amver participation awards .
