Hijacked MV Albedo Sinks in Rough Seas

By Piracy

EUNAVFOR confirmed that the vessel MV Albedo, which was held by armed pirates at an anchorage close to the Somali Coast, has sunk in rough seas after two and a half year in captivity.

The hijacked vessel MV Albedo has been in pirate hands since it was attacked in the Indian Ocean in November 2010, and was in pirate hands when it sank.

A EUNAVFOR war vessel and a Maritime Patrol Aircraft have closed the sea region and are carrying out a search and rescue action in order to find any survivors. The whereabouts of the fifteen crew members from the hijacked vessel MV Albedo is still to be confirmed.

EU Naval Force continues to monitor the situation.
