3 Somalis were convicted of piracy, kidnapping and murder for the shooting in 2011 and the death of 4 Americans. The US citizens were traveling in the Indian Ocean.

The attackers boarded the American yacht armed with riffles and had the intention to kidnap the passengers of the yacht and to ask for ransom. But later being persued by U.S. military forces decided to kill the hostages.

A federal jury, which has been hearing the case since early June in U.S. District Court in Norfolk, decide that Ahmed Muse Salad, Abukar Osman Beyle and Shani Nurani Shiekh Abrar are guilty on all 26 counts against them. The jury will be hearing more evidence during the sentencing phase of the trial later this month.

There were negotiations between the kidnappers and the U.S. military forces for 4 days with no result. Navy forces attacked the yacht, killing 2 pirates and capturing the rest.
