9 kids between 10 died in Bihar Boat Tragedy

Nine kids were among 10 victims when the country vessel they were on capsized in a flooded tributary of Kosi river, official sources reported on Saturday.

Among the victims are 5 girls and 4 boys, all aged between 8 to 12 years.

There were 11 people on the board of the boat and only 1 of them, a girl, could be saved, District Magistrate Upendra Kumar stated PTI of the mishap, which happened at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

As tragedy struck, the screams of the 10 dying people brought villagers nearby to their rescue. While 9 of the victims drowned before the rescue team could reach them, a girl who was admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition died this morning.

The victims that belong to 2 families, were being ferried back home to Khawan village from Pandit Basa village on the other side of the river where they had gone to attend a function at the home of a district JD(U) leader, Mohan Sharma.

The tragedy occurred in Alamnagar block in the Ratwara police outpost region.
