Facebook refuses UN to Fight with Piracy

Sanctions experts of the United Nations complained on Friday (19th of July, 2013) that Facebook is refusing to answer questions about vessel hijackings suspected to be organised on social media sites.

According to the report report for the Security Council, they stated that Somalia's notorious piracy business is being supported by accomplices that could be bankers, businessmen, politicians or aid workers, but Facebook refuses to disclose information about their internal activities.

"According to the investigations, it's already confirmed that these myriad facilitators are interlinked through divers communication channels and employ social network services, such as the larges social network - Facebook."

"Even though repeated official correspondence, which was addressed to Facebook Inc., it has never answered to monitoring group requests to discuss information on Facebook accounts, which belong to individuals that might be involved in hijackings and hostage-taking."

The sanctions experts stated that they have had "active and detailed support" from other private companies with their investigations.
