Black Sea Russian vessels to guard Sochi Olympics 2014

 Russian navy vessels will be guarding the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014. For ensuring the safety of the athletes and spectators, the Ministry of Defense will prepare the Black Sea fleet. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reveals some information that all vessels and their equipment is being built and will be ready for the start of the Winter Olympics.
He said:
"Our task is to bring them into operation in time,"

Security measures have to be taken for one of the high profile ranked events held in Russia. The threat of terrorism on sport events has not to be underestimated, we do not have to forget recent tragic events at the Boston Marathon.

Preparations of the fleet is going as planned, there are some delays and repairs of the Russian navy ships. The estimated cost is around $1.6 billion for the repair and maintenance of the navy vessels for the period from 2011 to 2013.

"Many of the ships and vessels have numerous restrictions on the use of weapons and military equipment," added Shoigu.
There are significant delays for the majority of the vessels, repairs need more time.

Some months ago the Black Sea Fleet along with military forces of Southern Military District made military exercises for 3 days. The drill was planned as preparation for Winter Olympics 2014 that will take place in Sochi.
What was the training?
The security activities were for detection and neutralization of terrorists in operative environment.
Olympic infrastructure also has been tested for terrorist attacks and sabotage.

FSB aviation also participated in the training showing some skills in freeing hostages. Over 6,000 people took in the military exercises.
