A 13-meter long commercial fishing ship allided with a jetty on Monday evening near Newport. Maritime professionals were dispatched from the USCG to assist 3 men of the allided vessel.
The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a distress signal dispatched at 8:15 pm. on Monday from the commercial fishing ship Eclipse. Crew of the allided vessel reported that they had lost propulsion of the vessel, struck on the jetty Nearby Newport and began taking on water.
Two of the allided ship's crew members could make their way onto the jetty while another one was safely rescued to shore by a shore party from Yaquina Bay Station in Newport. Second crew member was reported to have experienced mild hypothermia but he was hoisted onboard the USCG MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and transported to AirFac Newport to wait for EMS.
It was later reported that boat crew aboard a motor lifeboat dispatched from the Yaquina Bay Station of the USCG transferred a de-watering pump to the allided fishing ship Eclipse to pump out the water. The Motor Lifeboat professional towed the allided fishing vessel to Dock No.7 at Newport and then continued pumping out the water.
The cause of the allision of Eclipse to be investigated by the Sector Columbia in Warrenton investigators.
