Evergreen christened latest duo of L-type vessels

Evergreen Line launched another L-type container ship built by Samsung Heavy Industries. The sixteenth of the series vessel EVER LIVELY was christened at official ceremony at a shipyard in Korea by Bronson Hsieh, the Evergreen Group's Second Vice Group Chairman. The rope-cutting ritual of the 8,452-TEU container ship was performed by Ms. Ching-fen Cheng, Executive Vice President of Central Reinsurance Corporation.

EVER LENIENT, the seventeenth vessel in the series L-type container ship was christened the same day by Mrs. Connie Chang, wife of Mr. Chang.

Adding new ships to the fleet of Evergreen is a benefit for the company reducing the fuel costs of the shipping company. EVER LIVELY, EVER LENIENT and the other new ships will help Evergreen to stay competitive on the global shipping market. The two vessels are owned by Evergreen Marine (Singapore) Pte Ltd and Evergreen Marine (UK) Ltd. The dimensions of the newbuildings are impressive: 334.8 meters in length, 45.8 meters wide, with 948 reefer plugs and a draft of 14.2 meters. Both of the ships are capable to sail at speed up to 24.5 knots. EVER LIVELY, EVER LENIENT will be delivered next month and will enter service on the sea route Far East - Middle East.

Evergreen Line started its renewal fleet project in 2010 when it was the right time, shipbuilding costs were at favorable levels. The company decided to the move of ordering 30 L-type vessels and that was not the its final move. In addition of the ordering of the new vessels, there were chartered 5 8,800 TEU ships as well as 10 13,800 TEU units.
