Seven Chinese port employees were killed on Tuesday morning after Indian-flagged oil tanker ship, going for repairs, caught fire in the eastern China shipyard and exploded, reported the Xinhua news agency.
The explosion of the tanker ship occurred in Zhoushan's Haizhou shipyard, which is a town in the eastern province of Zhejiang. At the time of the accident 7 people were carrying out repairs of the tanker ship.
According to the initial reports, all seven victims were Chinese.
The cause that lead to explosion of the oil tanker ship is still being investigated, said a Zhejiang Work Safety Supervision Bureau spokesman.
There is no information whether there were any seafarers at the shipyard from the Indian tanker, when the explosion occurred.
Xinhua added, the exploded oil tanker ship carrying 50,000 tonnes was unloaded before the tragic incident occurred at the China shipyard.
Indian maritime officials requested further information about the accident from the port authorities of China shipyard.
