For many years Wagenborg operated a RoRo Liner Service with weekly calls from Sheerness and Terneuzen to Södertälje.

Wagenborg strengthens its position in the greater Stockholm area with expanded RORO liner service

As of June 2020,  Wagenborg will add a second sailing per week, which enables more trailer and container-based goods to be delivered to the greater Stockholm area.

A true game changer

David von Platen, line manager for Wagenborg Shipping Sweden AB in Malmö: “With only one sailing per week we were not attractive for transport companies to ship trailers, but this second sailing will be a true game changer in how goods can be transported to Stockholm.” Today, many of the unaccompanied trailers enter Sweden via Gothenborg and are then trucked to Stockholm. “Being able to arrive in Södertälje, the road distance is shortened with at least 250 kilometers”, David von Platen continues.

Joint venture Wagenborg and Holmen Paper

The second weekly sailing is a result of a joint venture between Holmen Papers and Wagenborg Shipping Sweden AB. Holmen Papers adds Terneuzen and Södertälje to their regular sailings from Sheerness. Holmen will continue to operate their line with papers from their mills out of Hallstavik and Norrköping, but Wagenborg Shipping Sweden AB will act as their commercial partner taking care of sales and booking activities. As a result of this cooperation, Wagenborg has been able to set up an own agency as well as a booking office in Terneuzen under the control of Wagenborg Agencies. With the establishment of the Terneuzen office, Wagenborg Agencies serves all Dutch sea ports.

Synergies for the environment

“It's a win-win situation,” says Thomas Samson, Logistics Development and Purchasing Manager at Holmen Paper. “We provide space on our vessels, and Wagenborg takes care of sales and bookings of deliveries back to Sweden. This is a great example of how we can create synergies, especially for the environment if we can cut at least 250 kilometers of road transports.”
