Russia blocks the Port of Sevastopol in Ukraine

The biggest harbor in Crimea, Ukraine, Port of Sevastopol  has been blocked by four Russian warships since Monday. The Ukrainian Slavutych, а command ship, and Ternopil, а corvette, have been kept in port. 

Oleksandr Turchynov, the acting Ukrainian president, accused Russia of piracy and said that the crew members of both ships would defend their ships.

Soldiers from the Russian army also controlled all borders and all military facilities in Crimea. Under troops control is the Kerch ferry terminal. The port of Balaclava has already been blocked by Ivanovets 954 warship. It is a Tarantul lll class corvette, built in 1988, and belongs to the Black Sea Fleets 295th Sulinsk Missile Boat Division.

The Pentagon stated that they suspend immediately all military relationships with the Russian government. Barak Obama convened a National Security Council meeting to discuss the situation in Ukraine.

“Over time, this will be a costly proposition for Russia. I think the world is largely united in recognizing that the steps Russia has taken are a violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty, " said Obama.

Commercial operations at the Port of Sevastopol have not been affected yet, because the harbors are separate.
