Fire on a container barge off Bahamas

According to the US Coast Guard a fire occurred on a barge (730-foot) towed by tug Patriarch. The distress signal was received by the Command Center on Thursday at around 12.30 local time. The Coast Guard stated that the seven men on board the tug and the general population are not threaten. The fire occurred among the containers with on a fully loaded barge with cargo 86 miles of Nassau (Bahamas), direction northeast.

Currently, the tug Patriarch and the tow are sailing to Nassau where they will access fire fighting and salvage operations. The operation is coordinated by search and rescue personnel in Miami's District Seven Command Center

The tug Patriarch is constantly monitored by the crew of HC-144A Ocean Sentry aircraft. They are monitoring the fire extent and the vessel.

Robert Yered, a cutter was sent to assist the operation of search and rescue. The cutter is a fast response with length of 154 ft. Its homeport is Miami. 

The tug Patriarch is registered in the United States and was built in 1976, IMO 7726524.
