Somali pirates released Italian tanker Enrico Ievoli

By Vessels

Pirates who kidnapped the Italian ship Enrico Ievoli (chemical tanker owned by Marnavi) off the coast of Oman last year have released the 16 631 tonne tanker and the sailors.
The vessel was on board with a crew of 6 Italians, 5 Ukrainians and 7 Indians, was seized in the Arabian Sea on Dec. 27, while it was carrying a cargo of caustic soda from the United Arab Emirates.
There is no information of any ransom paid to the pirates and no information is available from Marnavi.
The families of the 6 Italian sailors had been told that they are free.
Piracy in the Arabian Sea and off the east coast of Africa has become a scourge for international shipping companies, with bandits of Somali pirates in motorboats hijacking vessels and earning millions of dollars in ransom payments.
