ABS has qualified Japan’s Fukusuke Engineering Co., Ltd. as Recognized External Specialist for IHM (Inventory of Hazardous Material) services. Fukusuke Engineering Co., Ltd. has been involved in the development of IHM for 10 years as the research company of NKK/JSTRA and they have experience servicing more than 200 vessels.
ABS has qualified Fukusuke Engineering Co., Ltd. as the first IHM Recognized External Specialist in Japan after ABS surveyors confirmed all required processes were satisfactorily completed.
Currently, having an IHM is required in order to comply with EU regulations that will start on January 1, 2021. However, in recent years, there have been an increasing number of cases that are required when selling ships or scrapping them in countries such as India. Additionally, the triggers for the entry into force of the Hong Kong Convention are getting closer to being met.
Since the issuance of the certificate, Fukusuke Engineering Co., Ltd. has been listed on ABS’ website as a Recognized External Specialist. Fukusuke Engineering Co., Ltd. was founded in 1985 and has since provided a variety of engineering services including sales, manufacturing, construction, and maintenance of logistics and parking facilities. They have provided Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) services from 2008 and have also carried out almost 200 inventories for existing and newly constructed vessels.
