By Piracy

International Maritime Bureau told that pirate aggresion off West Africa made us witnesses to an increase in the first 4 months of this year.
In the first 3 months of the year 10 attacks happened off Nigeria , equal to the number seen in the whole last year.
The tally includes 2 seizures which involved the holding of 42 sailors.
Nigerian piracy is extending in range.
Figures show the number of hijackings of Somalia is lower but the International Maritime Bureau warns the threat is still dangerous.
In the first 3 months of this year 43 attacks were attributed to Somali pirates, while 9 ships were hijacked and 144 sailors were taken hostage.
“While the number of 2012 incidents and hijackings are less than reports for the same period in 2011 (97 incidents, 16 hijackings), it is unlikely that the threat of Somali piracy will diminish in the short to medium term unless further actions are taken,” the report told us.
Total = 102 attacks were made in the first 4 months globally, down from 142 incidents ( for 2011).
