VIDEO: Fire on board cargo ship Republica Di Roma

On April 10, a fire erupted on board Republica Di Roma, a ro-ro cargo vessel. The accident happened off Lome, Togo, a day after the ship had departed Port Cotonou, Benin. 

The crew is safe, but the damage of the vessel is still unknown. Photos of the accident have been provided by an anonymous employee of the owner's company. Currently, the vessel is in the Gulf of Guinea, offshore Togo. 

Republica Di Roma (IMO number 9009504 and MMSI 247161000) is a 42,001-ton vessel registered in Italy with capacity of 890 TEU and 2,200 vehicles. The 216-meter ship was built in 1992 and is managed by Grimaldi Group, Italy.
