One Jumbo Shipping has confirmed the order for a 2nd K-class ship, with an option for a 3rd to complement its existing fleet.
The heavy-weight cargo transportation firm tells it has decided to upgrade the lifting capacity of the ships from 1,300 to 1,500 mt, enabling tandem lifts of 3,000 meters. The new ships are said to comfortably surpass the capability of other ships in their class.
The new K-class ships are going to be built at the Brodosplit shipyard in Split, Croatia. The design incorporates Finnish-Swedish ice class 1A. Each ship is going to be prepared for DP2 installation, which is going to provide multi-facet installation support in the offshore sector enabling large and heavy structures to be loaded, transported and installed by a single ship, optimising project scheduling, safety and efficiency.
The 1st ship is going to enter into service in autumn 2013. The sister-vessel is going to follow some 6 months later.
